Although many Designers and illustrators abuse gradient effects as they often seem to be an easy option to make a design look nice.  However gradient effects are very hard to master, to create beautiful vector icons and illustrations.

The Gradient mesh tool in Illustrator is one of  the most powerful, learn how to use it correctly and understand what can be done with it.
